As DON’T TOUCH WHAT YOU CAN’T AFFORD, DTWYCA2 intends to actively provoke the
viewers thinking about each individual surrender to temptations. It questions our
consumptive behavior, symbolically expressed in workmanship and use of materials.
Critical minerals and rare earth elements (REEs) form the newest arena of competition
between the major world powers. It’s no longer just about economic dominance but is
already a cornerstone of national security. The global, high-stakes scramble is intensifying.
Not only driven by the clean energy transition, but artificial intelligence and military
technology advancements, the International Energy Agency estimates that the demand
for minerals will rise up to six-fold by 2040.
DTWYCA2 – bronze and chocolate
Due to its strategic value and limited supply tin is also designated as a critical raw material
by the EU. Tin is abundantly mined as cassiterite ore in China, Indonesia, Peru, Bolivia.
Crucial for aviation, automotive industries, electronics, coatings and for alloys as bronze.
The main ingredient in chocolate is the cocoa bean. Extreme weather conditions, driven
by climate change in West Africa —specifically Ivory Coast, the world’s leading producer—
account for one of the largest price increases among all food products, together with coffee.
